Seaweed?! Oats?! Soapland's premier Queen Bee...

Michelle KeeganMichelle Keegan - shares her recipe for looking good with online beauty magazine Queen Bee Beauty.

Michelle, you've been voted soap's sexiest female for two years running. Do you feel pressure to look immaculate all the time?
It's weird. When I won it the first year, I honestly didn't expect it; and then to win it a second time... it's such a compliment. I'm not a sexy person really, though. I wear scruffs during the day and at the moment I've got no make-up on.

It hasn't changed how I want to be perceived. I still go to Tesco with no make-up on, and my hair undone. I don't think I'd feel comfortable going around with make-up on all the time, so it's not changed anything, I don't feel I need to walk around all the time permanently done up. I feel better with minimal make-up really.

Are you required to wear a lot of make-up as your Corrie character Tina McIntyre?
Not really. I wear tinted moisturiser and mattifying powder on set. That's all that Tina wears, and a bit of mascara now and again. I'm lucky there, so I don't have to be caked in make-up all day.

What about when it comes to hair. What products do you go for? How do you like to wear your hair?
I like Jayne Jackson for hair extensions. I like big, big hair - anything that makes hair big. I like Kerastase products. I have also used Bumble & Bumble sea spray which is great on holiday. You spray it on and leave it to dry naturally, and it's really nice for that beachy hair look.

What about nails and false eyelashes?
Well, in the show Tina's not really allowed anything too glamorous. When I'm off work I do like to use polish, to use bright colours, especially in the summer. I always wear false eyelashes when I go out at night - or attending the awards.

How long does it take you to get ready on special nights out?
I'm getting better with time (laughs). I am! It used to take me a few hours. I would break off in between getting ready, usually to speak to someone or to grab something to eat. But without any interruptions it's usually about an hour to an hour and a half, depending on how long the make-up takes.

Do you prefer to apply your own make-up or have someone do it for you?
It depends really. If it's a big night, I prefer someone to do it for me and then I'll tweak it in my room. ArtDeco do my make-up for the big events, but for nights out on the town with friends I always do my own.

What make-up item do you have an abundance of?
Lipstick and lip glosses. I tend to get bored after a couple of weeks and think right I need another one now. I tend to stick with the dusty pinks and corals for my lips. I have gone for bright reds, but I don't think they suit me; they're too strong for my face, which is quite small, so I prefer to go for something more natural.

What's your favourite salon/spa treatment?
I love oxygen facials; they are really good. They make you look more youthful and your skin appears fresh. I really enjoy pedicures, too, they are really relaxing; in fact anything to do with feet. I've started having HD Brows at Urban Retreat at Harvey Nics. It involves waxing, threading and the tint makes them look more arched, giving them a defined look.

What's the strangest beauty treatment you've ever had?
Oh, a seaweed body wrap - and that was strange! I came out smelling of the sea! You have a shower after, but it was an experience that I didn't really like. I've also had a facial with oats, and that was at Macdonald Hotel Spa in Manchester. My skin felt really nice after, but it was a strange treatment. All I could smell was Weetabix!.

You've just turned 23. How do you feel about growing older? Should it be done gracefully?
It's good to grow old gracefully, but I can understand wanting to give yourself a tweak here and there - if you feel better for it.

Do you work out a lot to keep so trim and in such good shape?
I do now and again. I go through stages: One month I'll go to the gym a lot and then the next I don't really go at all. I do watch what I eat. I eat what I want, but in moderation.

Who is your ultimate beauty icon and why?
I like Jennifer Lopez. I think she always looks effortlessly beautiful, now matter whether she's with or without make-up. She also looks really healthy. And when you think she's 40...and has two young babies. She looks amazing.

Finally, what's your top beauty tip for Queen Bee Beauty readers?
Always wear sun protection on your face. Whether it's cream, or in a foundation or a tinted moisturiser. Protect your skin.
